January 1988 it is very cold on the Loire, and yet, Claude Fournier, Daniel Ricard, Jean-Marie Bourgeois and Marie-Paul Leroy find themselves in the late afternoon in St. Thibault, nose to the wind, looking for an idea to create a “tourist” business in Sancerre. Who spoke first golf course, nobody really remembers.
On 16 January 1988, the decision was taken to build a 18 hole golf course along the Loire. The land chosen covers 62 hectares and Didier Fruchet, a young Parisian architect, will sign the team’s first “18-hole”. Clearing and grubbing fences begin in March, the first modeling work on the ground in late April. In July, the practice (15 positions) is open to the public. August 6 holes compact is operational. Meanwhile the full automatic irrigation (12 kms of pipes!) Is set up. In late October grassing the greens, tees and fairways is completed. On December 10 covered driving range stations are in addition to 15 outdoor.
1 June 1989 opening of 18 holes.
The Club House, begun in June 1989 opens in December of the same year.
The golf course of Sancerre was enriched and improved over the years thanks to the Director, Roland Boistard. In 2007 it is recommended by Golf Magazine as one of 25 dream course chosen from more than 500 golf courses in French and particularly distinguished by getting the highest score (18/20) for its excellent quality / price ratio.
In 2009, the golf Sancerre celebrates 20 years and this year will be marked by its sale. Bourgeois families and Fournier (renowned winemakers Sancerre) remained alone shareholders have no successors eager to keep golf. For over 20 years, they had the desire to maintain and improve the quality of the course, there is no question of giving this little gem to anyone. The buyer must be able to sustain the business. Unfortunately seriously ill, Daniel Gaucher, manager succeeding Roland Boistard, was forced to slow down. At the option of meeting with Christian Gautier, golfer that began in Sancerre in 1995, the first owners entrust to it some of the responsibilities of director but passionate and professional Daniel is still very present. The agreement between the two men is perfect. But life is like that, Daniel is leaving December 7, 2011, leaving behind a golf phase of reorganization and it is natural that Christian Gautier returns to its suite.
Very involved in the life of golf, Valerie Thirot-Da Silva, Assistant Director since 1994, wants to buy golf. Three years have passed since the sale and the threat golf close in the short term. Not having all the keys to embark alone in the adventure, she sees very quickly by Christian Gautier, former entrepreneur and former national president of Enfance et Partage, the ideal ally. It therefore offers to engage with it and accept it. The duo is formed, remains to find financial, the golf courses are not highly rated from banks in March 2012, but it’s done, thanks to their seriousness and motivation.
Today, short-term projects to further improve the quality of the course and preserve the Gulf renowned friendliness of Sancerre.
